Kassie Meyer

Making art is something that I have enjoyed since childhood; I spent a lot of time drawing, painting, and creating.  My first experience with clay was in elementary school, where I tried my hand at making ornamental gifts.  The results didn’t quite match my vision at the time, but I’ve come to appreciate that unpredictability is part of the beauty of working with clay.

While I do not have formal training in the arts, I’ve been fortunate to take a variety of art classes in my early adult life.  I took my first ceramics class in March 2024 and have been immersed in it ever since.

I primarily work on the wheel, though I also enjoy exploring hand-building techniques and occasionally combining the two.  My work is largely functional, with an eclectic range of pieces from mugs to vivid vases.  I’m especially drawn to experimenting with texture, underglaze, and diverse glazing techniques.  I’ve explored methods such as Nerikomi, Neriage, and Raku, and I’m excited to continue learning and refining my skills.

Being part of the Canton Ceramic Artists Guild has connected me with a community of talented artists who are a constant source of inspiration and knowledge.  Through this experience, I’ve gained valuable insight into both the creative and behind-the-scenes aspects of life as a ceramic artist.
