Edie Hamilton
I was a mud-pie-making child that was foraging wild clay by age 8. I enrolled in my first CMA ceramic class in 2012. I officially opened ‘‘Prancing Pig Pottery and Studio” to students in 2018. Since then, I have also presented a ‘Save the Bee’ program to local classrooms in which each student creates a ceramic bee waterer.
I hand-build and wheel-throw. I often combine both by hand-altering wheel-thrown vessels. I have three signature pieces. One is my unique large hand-pieced scrap bowls that share stories through imprints, markings and glaze. Second, are my one-of-a-kind sculpted angels that are said by many to ‘speak’ to their prospective buyer. Sugar Skulls are my most recent signature piece. Each celebration-ready skull is adorned with festive hand-formed flowers.
My work is eclectic and incorporates techniques such as raku, horse hair, sgraffito, coiling, extrusion, weaving, slab work, etc. I enjoy varying projects and techniques. Most of my inspiration comes from life, faith and culture.
I have enjoyed taking 13 years of private and group ceramic classes throughout NE Ohio, attending workshops, and attending national conferences. My life has been entwined with working with and educating children and families, so it was only natural to welcome students into my home studio and to step back into the classroom setting to provide hands-on learning alongside classroom teachers.
The guild immerses me in a world of creativity and I enjoy volunteering through the guild to promote art within our community.
