I have been creating with ceramics and pottery for 10 years, with wheel-thrown art pieces being my favorite type of work. I enjoy working with porcelain clay, incorporating techniques such as Neriagi, painted underglaze accents, and Raku firing. I am also a woodworker. I enjoy taking everyday products and putting an artistic spin on them. For example, cutting boards. I love to use intricate geometric patterns to make boards that most people tell me are too cool to use. Woodturning is where most of the art comes out with wood, which lends itself to being combined with the pottery.
I belong to several Facebook groups and see what sparks an interest. I never try to duplicate pieces; I like to think of my own take. The first piece I was able to incorporate Wood turning and Raku-fired pottery is my favorite. I have been encouraged to mix the two for a while and finally came up with something I really liked.
Being a member of the Canton Ceramic Artists Guild has given me the opportunity to share ideas and techniques with other artists while contributing to the success of the CMA ceramic educational program. For fellow regional artists, the guild offers a way to meet and get to know people that understand why art is a necessity for a happy balance in life.
