Teresa Marinakis
Graduating from the University of Akron in 1988 with a degree in Commercial Art led me to a career in Public Relations and Marketing. I shifted into painting wall murals which has shifted, once again, into ceramics. I took ceramic classes from 2015 to 2017 at Canton Museum of Art. After joining the Canton Ceramic Artist Guild in November 2017, I experienced my first sale where I sold my work. Teresa Pottery was created shortly thereafter.
The kind of work I most enjoy creating is a thrown pot combined with hand-built components. The message in my work is a wish for success and contentment. I hope a mug for your coffee helps you feel refreshed, a bowl for your ice cream fills you with joy or a vase for your flowers brings peace into your day. I don’t have a favorite piece, but rather, have a favorite experience. Nature is a strong influence in my work. Working in my outdoor studio is the best and most satisfying feeling in the world. I wish I could stay out there all year round.
The energy at the CMA studio has influenced my work. Just being there inspires me to create a one-of-kind work of art. In addition to being an active member of Canton Ceramics Artist Guild, I am active in the community as the ceramics instructor for the non-profit organization, Lighthouse Ministries.
